Contribute to project safety and support skilled tradespeople. **Core Responsibilities** While duties vary by industry, the core tasks usually include: * **Site Preparation and Cleanup:** Loading and unloading materials, digging trenches, removing debris, sweeping floors, and setting up scaffolding or ladders. * **Material Handling:** Lifting, carrying, and moving raw materials (wood, steel, concrete, drywall) or finished goods. * **Equipment Operation:** Operating basic hand tools (jackhammers, drills, saws) and power tools, as well as heavy machinery like forklifts or skid steers (if certified). * **Assisting Tradespeople:** Supporting skilled trades such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, or masons by holding materials, measuring spaces, and prepping surfaces. * **Safety Compliance:** Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hats, gloves, steel\-toed boots), following Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, and securing work zones to prevent accidents. **Key Skills \& Qualifications** **Physical Requirements:** * **Strength and Stamina:** Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for 8–12 hour shifts; capacity to lift 50–100 lbs repeatedly. * **Dexterity:** Good hand\-eye coordination for operating tools safely. **Soft Skills:** * **Reliability:** Punctuality and a strong work ethic are paramount; projects depend heavily on the labor crew showing up. * **Communication:** Must understand verbal instructions and safety signals, especially in loud environments. * **Adaptability:** Ability to switch tasks quickly based on the phase of the project or weather conditions. **Credentials:** * Usually requires a high school diploma or GED. * Valid driver’s license is often required for travel to job sites. * Certifications (e.g., Forklift Operator, OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR) are highly desirable but often provided on the job.
