The role includes installing, configuring, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, and securing systems, along with supporting users, automation, and maintaining service availability. **Key responsibilities** * Install, configure, and maintain servers and operating systems (Windows/Linux). * Manage system patching, upgrades, and lifecycle planning. * Monitor system health, performance, and availability; investigate and resolve incidents. * Troubleshoot infrastructure issues (network, storage, identity/auth, application dependencies). * Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery support, and backup verification. * Configure user access, permissions, and authentication/authorization integration (AD/LDAP/SSO). * Administer storage and file systems; manage disk space, quotas, and capacity planning. * Maintain virtualization and container environments (VMware/Hyper\-V/KVM; Docker/Kubernetes as applicable). * Manage configuration tools and automation (scripts, Ansible/SCCM/Intune/PowerShell, etc.). * Implement and maintain security baselines (hardening, logging, vulnerability remediation). * Manage tickets and document solutions; maintain runbooks and system documentation. * Coordinate with network, security, and application teams on changes and escalations. * Support end users and business applications that run on managed infrastructure. * Create and execute change plans for maintenance windows and upgrades. **Required qualifications** * Hands\-on experience administering Windows and/or Linux servers. * Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing basics). * Experience with monitoring/alerting and log review. * Proficiency with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar). * Understanding of backup concepts and restore testing. * Familiarity with identity and access management (AD/Entra ID/LDAP/SSO). * Working knowledge of security fundamentals (patching, least privilege, auditing/logging). * Experience with ticketing/ITSM tools (ServiceNow/Jira/etc.). **Preferred qualifications** * Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper\-V). * Experience with cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP) or hybrid environments. * Knowledge of configuration management/automation (Ansible, Terraform, SCCM, etc.). * Experience with monitoring stacks (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios, Prometheus/Grafana). * Knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS) and performance troubleshooting. * Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA/GDPR—if relevant). **Skills and competencies** * Strong troubleshooting and root\-cause analysis. * Reliable judgment and follow\-through on fixes and preventive actions. * Clear technical communication and good documentation. * Ability to prioritize incidents and changes with minimal downtime. * Security\-minded operations and comfort working with access controls.
